Reflections: Fight

If you want something, you have to fight for it. HARD.
No excuses, no days off, no self-pity. The world is turning more difficult every day, and as much as I would like to believe New Agers and their “a shift is happening” fantasy, I can’t. Maybe it is because it is a belief that only privileged people can have, and being a poor, non-binary woman of colour who lives in a tiny island and is in charge of her house, my level of privilege has never been that much.
I’ve had to fight for everything that I’ve ever had, and I still have to, every single day. I work seven days a week – I do not tend customers on weekends, but if you think that an Espiritista has weekends off, holidays, or anything similar, think again. There isn’t a day that I don’t have obligations to my Spirits, the Land, and my own practises. And that doesn’t even begin to cover the fight to regain my mental and physical health that has happened in the past years.
Learn to enjoy the fight. Learn to thrive against the odds. Learn to win. And celebrate, celebrate each one of those wins, so they fuel more commitment, more devotion, more giving yourself into every goal you have. Because my friend, life owes you nothing, and will give you nothing unless you conquer it yourself.
Visualize your Ancestors and your Cuadro Espiritual around you while you fight. Light a candle for their elevation and empowerment as you work through the day, and remember to thank them with offerings regularly, because they truly are there for you. Make them stronger, so they make you stronger, and so you leave a legacy of power to the next generation.
